Readers sometimes assume the ‘established’ year on a route page refers to the mountain’s historical first ascent. It doesn’t — it’s the year Serac’s own guiding operation on that specific route began, which is a much more recent and much less mythologized date.
We think that distinction matters. The history of first ascents on these mountains belongs to the climbers who did them, often decades before any guiding company existed.
